Greetings from the north east! Although I can’t join y’all at the studio now, I have been thinking a great deal of all I learned from all the great teachers at East Side Yoga. So it was a pleasant surprise to see Erin’s responses to these curious questions land in my email box the other day. I am happy to share with you all I found out but also encourage you to catch a class with her and find out for yourself!
* when and where were you introduced to the practice of yoga?
in 1996, i was living in seattle & went to a hatha class out of curiosity. then i got into bikram (seattle is cold!) for about 5 years before branching out & exploring the wide variety of other types of yoga over time.
yes, it’s given me a different perspective altogether & strengthened my personal practice. I also like trying out new postures on my own and finding ways to make them more accessible to beginners.
i like the idea of these classes as a way to take a break from that lifestyle. while motivation is important, sometimes just motivating yourself to get to class can be enough, and then it’s time to let go, breathe, relax and recharge the battery.
* What do you find most inspiring from teaching?
“If you want to learn something, read about it. If you want to understand something, write about it. If you want to master something, teach it.” ~ Yogi Bhajan
* Has there been a time (big or small) when your yoga practice has moved from your mat to your daily life.
my yoga practice has inspired a sense of balance in my daily life that also ties into the desire for a generally healthy lifestyle. i also use deep breathing in stressful situations.
* What other activities bring you happiness?
i like to spend time outside, in water, traveling, reading, and with friends & family.
